Small, historic hotel: The Peacock in Derbyshire
The Peacock, which dates back to 1652, is a small, luxurious, historic hotel at Rowsley. It is decorated with antiques and is situated in lovely gardens that descend to the banks of the River Derwent, where you could enjoy a spot of trout fishing. From the 1830s, it has operated as a hotel. It is a part of the Haddon Estate, which is owned by Lord and Lady Edward Manners, who reside nearby at Haddon Hall.
The late 1600s saw the construction of this opulent Peak District hotel, which has since become a model of hospitality. The family-run historic hotel is ideally situated as a base from which to explore and take advantage of everything that the lovely Peak District National Park has to offer.
Fine dining at the historic Peacock
Dan Smith, the head chef at The Peacock, began his career at L’Ortorlan when he was just 17 years old. He later worked for Tom Aikens in Chelsea, a Michelin-starred chef and proprietor of Tom’s Kitchen, at the Landmark in Marylebone, and at The Greenhouse in Mayfair. Dan uses organically raised meat and lamb from the Haddon Estate (where The Peacock is located), as well as cattle, lamb, and pork from E. W. Coates in the Two Dales and Hancock’s in Stoney Middleton, Derbyshire. Dan has earned The Peacock three AA rosettes during his tenure as head chef, placing the eatery among the top ten percent of British restaurants.
