Hotel Britania

A genuine Art Deco Boutique hotel in Lisbon old town.

Situated in the tranquil street Rodrigues Sampaio, parallel to Avenida da Liberdade, the Hotel Britania building stands out for the vanguard features of its designer: Cassiano Branco, one of the great names of contemporary Portuguese architecture.

Designed in 1942 with 30 spacious rooms and ample common areas, the hotel opened its doors two years later with the name Hotel do Império. Regarded as the most modern and one of the most luxurious hotels in Lisbon, the beauty of the interiors – where the deco language lives alongside nationalist symbols – and the modernity of the equipment were all the rage at the time.
