Villa Soleil in Colleretto Giacosa, Piedmont, Italy

This early 18th-century Villa is a restored masterpiece of the Italian architect Alfredo d’Andrade. Its walls tell the story of Giuseppe Giacosa, librettist of Puccini operas including La Bohème, who first escaped the small world of Canavese for a grander one of the arts, later returning with the likes of Sarah Bernhardt and Puccini.

The atmosphere of the villa is stimulating, not least due to antique wooden ceilings (anno 1400), a fireplace with authentic signatures of famous writers, and a 5,000 m2 park. 15 comfortable rooms, each furnished appropriate to the original era. The “Il Ritrovo dei Poeti” restaurant serves fine Italian cuisine featuring seasonal meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes.
